The U.S. soil temperature map above shows the average ground temperature in various regions across the United States.  Deep earth temperature in Massachusetts ranges from about 48 to 52 degrees.  During the design phase of a geothermal system it is critical that the deep earth temperature for your location be determined.  Soil type and moisture levels impact the thermal conductivity and diffusivity and should be analyzed as part of a proper geothermal design.
